First steps……..

Hey Everyone!

Welcome to my first ever blog post! Ive got so many things I want to write about and I look forward to finally getting involved in the world of blogging.

I wasn’t sure where to begin but when we got our first delivery form ‘The Little Green Shop‘ It felt like a a good place to start. Were in the process of trying to make our home more sustainable and heres how.

I’ve promised myself that when something breaks or wears out in our home I will try to replace it with a more eco/sustainable product.

Our home is still full of plastic items and products, however it’s pretty overwhelming to think about replacing them all at once (and would actually be very wasteful if they are still functioning). Now if I find something that needs to be replaced I stop and think, do a bit of research and usually find a easy sustainable option.

We were in need of some pretty basic household items like new toothbrushes & toothpaste! So I began searching online and I found The Little Green Shop, an Irish owned small business with so many simple household items you can order in seconds. I kept my shopping list short and sweet only buying what we need for now. Two bamboo toothbrushes and toothpaste in a glass jar.

No more plastic toothbrushes & toothpaste tubes entering our bins! It seems so simple and easy. Hopefully we’ll never go back.

Around 3.5 billion toothbrushes are sold worldwide each year and ultimately end up in our landfills or oceans. No human has lived long enough to see plastic fully decompose, currently scientist believe it can take up to 500 years!

Think of all the toothbrushes you are yet to buy in your life time, hundreds! So wouldn’t it be so much better if they where bio degradable and didn’t end up being added to the mounting sea of plastic?

So thats it, If something breaks or needs replacing do a little bit of research and find a more eco sustainable product.

One simple step but one that will make a huge difference.

Ps if you need more motivation to start reducing your use of plastic watch Blue Planet 2. Its incredible beautiful, humbling but sad.

Hey Char! Love this – what an amazing first post! Thanks for taking the tiresome job of research off my to-do list! Eco toothbrushes are going in the basket! Would love to hear how the truthpaste goes: I used to use Lush toothytabs but found they weren’t great for my overall oral health (chapped lips, bad breath – ewe!!!) so have been back on β€˜normal’ toothpaste since crimbo and seen big improvement. Keep up the blogging – I’ll be an avid reader! xXx

Sorry Charlotte but if my city does the recycling and I separate …. paper / glass and cans / compostable and plastic…. can I feel less guilty about using plastic?πŸ˜”
Here it is recycled to make new products.
